L'Institute of Queer Ecology (IQECO) a été fondé en 2017 par Lee Pivnik alors qu'il étudiait à la Rhode Island School of Design. Il est codirigé par Nicolas Baird, qui a rejoint le projet peu après sa création et a continué à piloter sa croissance et son orientation.
